A solid compromise that sometimes works when getting up and leaving just seems inhuman. One could push two beds together. This makes a ton of difference because, although it doesn't cure the noise factor, it does ameliorate the tossing and turning factor. That is, you're sleeping, or laying awake more likely, next to your partner, but when you get up or move around, they don't feel it because you're on a different set of springs. This way, if the non-insomniac is not a snorer, the two can "virtually" bed together, (with twin beds even put one king size cover sheet and the thing even passes as one bed.) Other times I've slept on a therma rest pad right next to the beloved's bed and manage to log some zees in relative peace and with minimal self-consciousness. Plus, the normie person has the security of knowing you're just a couple of feet away and can be called for some cuddling or whatever when needed.

Re: Two Twin Beds Pushed Together
Wed, November 26, 2003 - 3:31 PMThat IS a good compromise for the sleeping aspect, and you're right - the separate springs does leave the other un-disturbed. Be careful about activity, though... it's too easy for the two beds to separate and have legs or arms fall into the crack. Even cuddling poses some problems because of the stiffness of the sides of each mattress. But it's certainly better than one twin, or being tossed around because of the other's restless sleep. -

Two Twin Beds Pushed Together
Mon, December 1, 2003 - 12:04 AMYou're right about the problem of the stiffer middle section created by the sides of the two beds. So when any cuddling goes on, it must be decidedly on one or the other of the twin beds, then when cuddling's done for the night, then both can go to their neutral corners, to use a boxing term.

Re: Two Twin Beds Pushed Together
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 10:55 AMHas anyone found master bedroom furniture sets with separate beds? I am interested in buying a complete bedroom set with 2 twin beds.
A year ago I bought a TEMPURPEDIC king bed that cost a fortune and did not solve the problem...even though the king visco-elastic mattress was made up of 2 detached twin mattresses the bed had a common foundation.
My next move is: 2 separate beds in the same room! -

Re: Two Twin Beds Pushed Together
Thu, June 14, 2007 - 2:22 PMTrundle Beds is the term. I had a set once and regret that I had to sell it off at some point. A twin trundle bed has a normal-looking twin bed frame with a mattress on top. Instead of a box-spring, the thing had a hard support board to keep the mattress firm and steady. Then, below, where the box spring would be, and covered up by the comforter and sheets on top, is a twin bed on rollers that comes right out and functions completely independently as a totally separate bed. It's the same size and one can put the same high-quality twin mattress on it. This saves room and looks nice and is great to use.
I'm shocked to hear the Tempur Pedic theory failed. I myself had not tried it. I was going to try it, just for a chance of bedding for myself, but heard of other problems I won't detail just now. But, in any case, this is good information, since I would have been tempted to try it eventually and perhaps would have lost money in the process.
